What are the primary causes of an indoor slip and fall accident?

As an employee, you show up at the office every day with the idea of doing your job and remaining safe. Unfortunately, there are times when things don't go as planned.

Every year in office buildings and retail locations throughout the United States, employees (among others) are injured in indoor slip and fall accidents.

As a worker, you assume that the property owner will keep the floors in good condition as to help prevent accidents. However, this isn't always the way things work out.

Some of the primary causes of an indoor slip and fall accident include:

-- Failing to provide warnings when floors are wet, slippery, or have been recently waxed.

-- Failing to close off a section of flooring that is too dangerous to walk on.

-- Using an excessive amount of polish or wax, thus making the surface slippery.

-- Treating one part of the floor but not the other, resulting in a change of condition that can cause confusion.

-- Neglecting to repair floor damage, such as carpeting that has pulled up or is worn down.

If you are injured in a slip and fall accident at your place of employment, it's important to do a few things:

-- Call for medical help.

-- Report the accident to your employer.

-- Learn more about your rights as an employee.

There will come a point when you want to learn more about workers' compensation benefits. This type of accident can lead to serious injury, meaning that you may not be able to return to work in the near future.
