What’s the best way to treat a second degree burn?

Depending on your job responsibilities, you may come in close contact with hot surfaces from time to time. For this reason, it's possible that you could suffer a serious burn.

A second degree burn can cause serious pain, which is why it needs to be treated in the appropriate manner. Here are some tips for doing so:

-- Rinse the burn with cool water. Doing so will help the pain subside. Never use ice or ice water as this could cause tissue damage.

-- Clean the burn. Once rinsed, it's important to clean the burn.

-- Bandage the burn. If the skin has not broken open, you may not need to bandage the area. However, if the skin or blisters have broken, don't delay in applying a bandage.

Along with the above, it's important to receive medical treatment if you have reason to believe that your burn is more serious than something you can treat on your own.

In addition to receiving treatment, don't forget to report the accident and injury to your employer. You shouldn't wait to do so, as you don't want your company to think that you suffered the injury outside of work.

Depending on the seriousness and location of your burn, you may not be able to return to work right away. For this reason, it will be in your best interest to file a workers' compensation claim. This is the best way to receive compensation until you are able to return to work.

If your initial claim is denied, maybe because your employer has stated you weren't injured at work, don't hesitate to file an appeal.
