Are you covered by workers’ compensation?

Many people assume that they are covered by workers' compensation, but find themselves in for a big surprise after suffering an injury.

On the same note, many workers assume that they are unable to receive workers' compensation benefits after suffering a workplace injury. Unfortunately, this leads to a situation in which they miss out on money that is due to them.

Whether or not you are covered by workers' compensation depends on a variety of factors. Generally speaking, two details come into play:

-- Whether you are an employee of the company

-- Whether your injury was a result of your employment

For example, if you suffered an injury outside of work, you cannot make a claim for workers' compensation benefits.

Here's something else to think about: Just because you are covered by workers' compensation and were injured on the job it doesn't mean that you are able to receive benefits.

There are many reasons why a claim could be denied, such as your employer arguing that you intentionally injured yourself.

Note: There are also steps you need to personally take in order to receive workers' compensation benefits, such as filing your claim in a timely manner.

If you are covered by workers' compensation, you have every right to file a claim with the hope of receiving benefits without delay. With this money, you'll find it easier to make ends meet as you recover and wait to return to work.

In the event of a denial, don't hesitate to learn more about your situation and the steps you can take to file an appeal.
